The Inti Raymi, the Feast of the Sun, is one of the most emblematic celebrations of the Inca civilization and is celebrated in three of the main historical scenarios of Cusco: Coricancha and the Esplanade of the Archaeological Park of Saqsayhuaman. This festival, which honors the Sun, has its origin in the winter solstice and marks the beginning of the new agricultural cycle, asking for the return of the Sun to ensure good harvests.

Itinerary of the day:

07:00 – 07:30 hrs: Departure from the meeting point
We start the tour with the transfer to Qorikancha, the Temple of the Sun, to witness the first ceremony of the day.

09:00 – 10:00 hrs: Qorikancha (Temple of the Sun)
The ceremony begins with the greeting to the Sun. The Inka and his royal court invoke good omens and offer chicha de Jora to Taita Inti, the Sun God.

We will see the general of the army, the imperial guards, the Aqllas, the women who scatter flowers, and the Pichaqcunas, in charge of cleaning the place. In addition, we will enjoy traditional music with pututus, quenas and tamborcillos, which will immerse us in the ancestral atmosphere.

12:00 – 13:30 hrs: Lunch (Box Lunch)
We enjoy a box lunch while we head to the Esplanade of Saqsayhuaman for the second stage of the festival.

13:45 – 15:30 hrs: Saqsayhuaman
The central ceremony takes place on the Saqsayhuaman esplanade. Here, representatives of the four Suyos participate in ritual offerings. We will see the symbolic sacrifice of a llama, the chicha, the sacred fire and the rite of the sacred bread.

In this scenario, music and popular fervor reach their climax, culminating in a great celebration.
