Itinerary

Day 01 Cusco – Huaypo Lagoon – Salineras de Maras

We begin the ATV Maras tour early in the morning at 06:00 AM (alternative 01:00 PM). A private transport will pick us up from our hotel in Cusco. The drive lasts about 45 minutes to the community of Chequereq, in the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Here, we will practice riding the ATVs under guidance before starting the main adventure.

Once ready, the ride continues toward the stunning Huaypo Lagoon. This beautiful Andean lake is surrounded by hills and farmland, reflecting sunlight on calm waters. We will ride along trails, stop to take photos, and learn about the local legends surrounding the lagoon. The natural scenery provides a perfect introduction to the region’s rural beauty and culture.

Next, the ATV Maras route continues along unpaved roads to the town of Maras. Along the way, we will see green fields, Andean mountains, and snow-capped peaks including Veronica and Chicón. The open landscapes allow excellent photo opportunities and a close view of traditional farming practices.

Upon arriving at Salineras de Maras, we will descend from the ATVs and explore the salt ponds. Over 3,000 salt pools spread down the mountainside, each measuring about 4 m². We will observe local families extracting salt using traditional methods. Here, we can taste chocolate with local salt and enjoy other products from the Sacred Valley.

Finally, we will return by vehicle to Cusco. The tour concludes around 01:00 PM for morning departures or 07:00 PM for afternoon departures. This ATV Maras and Huaypo Lagoon adventure combines adrenaline, natural beauty, and local culture into a single unforgettable day.

Muy linda experiencia! El traslado y el guía estuvieron muy bien. Es una caminata exigente pero muy bonita. Estaría bueno tener una media hora más para recuperarse y subir hasta la cima donde salen mejores fotos. Al menos con mi estado físico no me dio el aire para hacer todo tan rápido!
